Adventures Across the Western USA

And thus concludes another road trip.

From snow-covered mountain top resort towns to a reunion in Vegas to winding remote passes and an alien Trump on the outskirts of Area 51 ... this latest round of travel shoots covered over 7000 km through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, and Washington.

I was light on the sneak peeks this time largely due to a lack of downtime, but I can assure you there will be a lot of highlights ahead. As always, I appreciated the recommendations and concerns over the last few weeks. Everything was totally fine - albeit a lot quieter than usual.

Stay tuned for new previews soon.

It's good to be home.

A Snowy Flight Over Utah

On route to my connection in Salt Lake City, Utah this morning, two failed landing attempts in white-out conditions lead to a 40 minute diversion to a small airport in Idaho for refueling.

While ordinarily this would be frustrating, I had a long layover in SLC anyway that was going to kill an afternoon. The diversion actually became an incredible aerial tour over Great Salt Lake with the opportunity to photograph some of the most unbelievable winter scenery below.

We were on the ground about an hour in Idaho before the weather passed and we were back on track. Now here I am in SLC waiting for my next flight and already excited about images I was never meant to capture. My good / bad luck strikes again!

Open Roads in Scenic Idaho

Heading south we crossed the border into Idaho in the late afternoon. We were on our way to Spokane for the night before continuing on to Portland. Thankfully, the slogan on the Idaho license plate proved to be accurate and we were treated to some stunning views. Through the mountains and rolling hills, the quiet roads were a pleasure to drive in the 300. Passed Sandpoint we stopped at Cocolalla Lake to dip our feet in the water as the sun began to set. It was the beginning of an incredible road trip through the Northwest, and it had Mike and I enthusiastic about the journey ahead.

Montana Joyride

montana road tripAcross the US border we continued our drive south through Montana. The sun began to set casting a golden yellow across the fields, rolling hills, and mountains. This was merely the beginning of our road trip to California and the views were already spectacular. It was early September and the days were shortening, but by the time we crossed into Idaho we had put the top of the car down and were ignoring the chill in the air for the starry sky overhead.
