Docked at Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii, the USS Bowfin Submarine is a museum and memorial honoring submariners who served in World War 2. The submarine is open for public tours, allowing visitors to explore the corridors, controls, and history of this 1940s era vessel.
One thing that's immediately clear while exploring this submarine is that you wouldn't want to be claustrophobic. Not surprisingly, there's little room for added comforts. The number of gauges, levers, and switches is also overwhelming, and you almost can't believe that anyone was able to make sense of it all. The USS Bowfin has been beautifully restored and maintained, and with Pearl Harbor as a backdrop, it's a thoroughly authentic place to get lost in World War 2 history.
From the coast to the desert and back again, my Roadside California photography series has been a lot of fun to put together. To recap the progress I've made so far I felt it was time to do a highlight reel of some of my favorite shots. Stay tuned, I'll be back in California in a few weeks time to continue this project. Until then, explore the journey here.
