After finishing our tour of the aviation part of the museum, Mike and I headed over to the Evergreen Space Museum where we witnessed a mock rocket launch, read about the space race, and marveled at the impressive collection of vehicles, capsules, and rocket components. I found the Cold War era history especially fascinating. This museum in McMinnville, Oregon is amazing!
Shortly after crossing the Astoria-Megler bridge we found ourselves skirting the Washington coast on our way to the North Head Lighthouse. This beautiful lighthouse was first lit in 1898, and was used to alert ships coming from the north on their way into the Columbia River.
North Head Lighthouse is located in Cape Disappointment State Park, which seemed fitting, as Mike and I were both disappointed that we'd missed our chance to go inside the lighthouse by only 10 minutes. Still, it was a stunning location with epic views of the Pacific Ocean. We also ended up exploring Battery Harvey Allen shortly after, which was a bonus we hadn't planned for.
