On Friday night Yukon Blonde was in Medicine Hat, Alberta to play a show at Schooner's Pub. I paired up with MHZine to check it out, have a few drinks, and get a few shots of this amazing Canadian indie rock band in action. Their sound is clearly bigger than the space at Schooner's, but it was a great performance and the modest crowd was into it. It was also a great opportunity to see a band of this caliber in such an intimate setting. A great experience all around!
The Los Angeles Theatre is a 2000 seat movie palace located in downtown Los Angeles, California. Construction began in 1930 and opened with the world premiere of Charlie Chaplin's City Lights in January 1931. It was the last of the grand movie palaces to be built on Broadway in downtown L.A. as the depression took its toll and competition increased along Hollywood Boulevard. While the theatre still has screenings (City Lights was on the marquee during my visit) it's more frequently used as a filming location today.
Constructed between 1879-1882, the Iolani Palace in Honolulu was the official residence of the royal family of Hawaii until the monarchy was overthrown in 1893. The palace is the only official state residence of royalty located on US soil and features decorative plaster ornamentation throughout the interior and a beautiful koa wood staircase in the grand hall.

Following the overthrow, the palace then served as the capitol building of the Provisional Government, Republic, Territory, and eventually the State of Hawaii up until 1969 when the new capitol was constructed. Today the Iolani Palace is a museum that's open for public tours and has been stunningly restored and maintained as a National Historic Site.
